Everything Patagonia offers, arranged from the hotel

Twenty years in El Chaltén taught us one thing: the difference between a good trip and an extraordinary one is planning it with someone who knows every trail, every hour of light, and every corner worth the walk.

Every day, at the bar

Plan your days with Nacho

Our resident host receives guests every day at the hotel bar — map open, welcome drink in hand.

To make the very most of your stay, let yourself be guided by Ignacio — "Nacho" — our resident host. Every day at the hotel bar, with a trail map spread out and a welcome drink poured, he helps guests plan their days in El Chaltén strategically: which trail on which day, according to the weather, the light, your legs and your ambitions.

Conditions in Patagonia change by the hour, and the order in which you walk the trails matters more than most visitors realise. Nacho reads the forecast the way locals do — and will happily tell you when to save Laguna de los Tres for a clearer morning, and what to do instead.

Because we don't want you to leave a single corner of this landscape unseen. The consultation is free, unhurried, and available every afternoon of your stay.

After the trail

The relaxation room

Jacuzzi and sauna with panoramic views over the valley — built for post-trekking recovery.

Twenty-two kilometres to Laguna de los Tres and back asks a great deal of your legs. The relaxation room is our answer: a jacuzzi and sauna overlooking the Río de las Vueltas valley, where the day's effort dissolves while the light fades over the mountains you just walked.

Book your session on arrival at reception for a private experience — and if your muscles need more direct attention, massage treatments designed specifically for post-trekking recovery can be arranged during your stay.

Excursions

Beyond the classic treks, the region rewards those who explore further — and every excursion can be booked directly at the hotel.

Lago del Desierto navigation. Thirty-seven kilometres north of El Chaltén, along one of the most scenic drives in Patagonia, Lago del Desierto offers glacial waters, native forest and one of the finest views of the Fitz Roy anywhere in the region. The boat crossing can be combined with a short trek to the Huemul Glacier and its lagoon — an accessible half-day that many guests name as a highlight.

Reserva Natural Los Huemules. Twenty kilometres from the village, a private nature reserve dedicated to small-group excursions and quiet contemplation — forests, wetlands and trails far from the main circuits.

Also available through the hotel: kayaking on Lago del Desierto, mountain biking, and rafting on the Río de las Vueltas. Ask Nacho which fits your days and your energy.

Boat crossings and reserve entrances carry their own fees, separate from park access. We confirm current prices when booking.

Half-days and rest days

Short walks

Not every day needs to be a summit. These walks fit an afternoon — and still deliver Patagonia.

Chorrillo del Salto. Around four kilometres with barely any climb, along Ruta 41 at the foot of Cerro Rosado, alternating forest and gravel road. It ends at a waterfall carved into the mountain — an easy, beautiful outing for arrival days and tired legs.

Mirador de los Cóndores y las Águilas. Starting beside the national park office, a short, brisk climb places you above the village — with condors frequently riding the thermals overhead and the full sweep of the valley below. The classic first-evening walk.

Visitors entering Los Glaciares National Park are required to purchase an entrance ticket. We strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.

For the full trail catalogue — Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Torre, Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, Laguna Capri — see our complete El Chaltén guide.

Beyond the trails

Wildlife & photography

The valleys around El Chaltén are alive — and the light here is unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Patagonian wildlife

Condors, guanacos, foxes and a remarkable diversity of birdlife inhabit the valleys around the village. For nature enthusiasts, Patagonia offers encounters that extend well beyond the mountains themselves.

Photography expeditions

The light shifts by the minute between storm and clarity, casting the granite towers in colours that never repeat. Guided photography outings can be arranged through the hotel — timed for dawn and dusk, when the Fitz Roy earns its reputation.

Autumn

In March and April the lenga forests turn orange, red and gold, the winds calm, and the trails empty. Increasingly, it is the season our returning guests choose — and the one photographers plan years around.
